Q1: Understanding: Can you explain the RTI (response to intervention) process?
Q2: Synthesizing: Create a modification for a student in a music class who has a learning disability.
(I know Chapter 5 was due last week, but I accidentally did Chapter 2 last week instead, so I just switched them).
1. Rti stands for response to intervention regarding students with disabilities. Basically, there are 3 tiers, or levels of intervention. The bottom level is in the general education classroom, where everyone is tested. Then if a student is struggling there is a mild intervention for 6-9 weeks. If that is not successful, the student moves up into tier 2 for a more intense intervention for another 6-9 weeks. (An example of an intervention could possibly include a pull out program for 30 minutes 3-4 times per week). If that does not work, the student moves to tier 3 for a very intense and highly individualized intervention, such as 45+ min 5-6 times per week. Then comes screening and referral. Parents should be legally contacted by this point, but communication is encouraged when the process begins.
ReplyDelete2. An example of a modification for a student with a learning disability could be having a music student play only 1 line per day, instead of 3 lines. They are still upheld to the same level as the other students, they just have less material to cover since it is more difficult.
